Windows Defender & AV vendors have marked μTorrent as “threat”
μTorrent is a cross-platform download software, support for magnetic, BT and other extended protocols, the number of users in foreign countries, but the current situation is relatively rampant.
Currently, Microsoft’s Windows Defender has marked the μtorrent client as a potential threat. Several other anti-virus software also began marking the latest version of μTorrent as harmful.
It is not clear what the reason is, and BitTorrent Inc considers these warnings to be false positives, possibly because μTorrent occasionally bundles the software in its installation package, which is bundled with optional adware.
μTorrent client BitTorrent has received these reports, the latest version of μTorrent has been removed from the official download page. Malwarebytes’ real-time protection module also warn you when you try to download μTorrent. The μTorrent company said, “We believe that this passive flag changed to active just hours ago with the Windows patch Tuesday update when a small percent of users started getting an explicit block.”
From the current point of view, this is not due to the problem of bundled software packages. BitTorrent claims that the software complies with Google and the Clean Software Alliance standards.
