2018 Global Web Attacks – Top Ten Target Countries: United States ranked first
The cloud delivery platform, Akamai recently released Internet Security 2018 Summer Web attacks reported, analysed from November 2017 to April 2018 the status of Web attacks. Akamai stated that it received 400 million web application attacks from the world in the past six months.
The most common type of application attack is still SQL injection. In this period, the attacks were observed by Akamai Kona Web Application Firewall, the following three types of attacks represented 93% of the total attack volume:
- SQL injection attack (51%);
- Local file contains LFI (34%);
- Cross-site scripting XSS attacks (8%).
The United States remains the highest source of Web application attack traffic, triggering 238 million attack alerts in the last six months. Although this does not mean that these attacks are from the United States, at least it means that the system used to implement the offence is in the United States. Followed by the Netherlands (the population is far from the United States), has triggered 94 million attack alerts. China ranked third, causing 56 million attacks.

Akamai stated that high-speed Internet access and the popularity of data centres would all seriously affect the attack traffic in different countries. Since it is difficult to determine the source of the attack accurately, it is impossible to determine the location of the attacker.
In the Asia-Pacific region, the top five countries and areas are China, India, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. In the attack target of the Web application, the United States ranked first.
