Ubuntu 18.10 will be released on 18 October 2018

Ddos May 11, 2018 1 minute read

Ubuntu 18.10 finally had its own name, Cosmic Cuttlefish, and development work was started earlier this week. Recently released Ubuntu 18.04 LTS uses GCC 7 by default, and Ubuntu 18.10 will be migrated to the latest release of GCC 8.1, but it will not be the system default.

Ubuntu 18.10 will carry the Linux Kernel 5.x kernel. After all, Linus Torvalds had made announcements to the community last month. In addition, the version will also carry Python 3.7 and OpenJDK 11.

The default desktop environment for Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) is GNOME 3.30, which is scheduled to go live on September 5. Normally, GNU/Linux distributions will go live after GNOME releases maintenance releases, so Ubuntu 18.10 may carry GNOME version 3.30.1, which is expected to go live on September 26.

The official development roadmap for Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) has not yet been announced, but according to the scenario of developer Simon Quigley, the first round of Testing Week will be held on May 21-25, 2018, and the second Testing Week will be 2018. On June 25-29, the third will be July 23-27, and the fourth will be August 27-31.

The “Final Beta” version is expected to go live on September 27, 2018. Ubuntu 18.10 is expected to go online on October 18, 2018.
