Ahead of the Google I/O 2025 conference, scheduled to commence on May 20th (Pacific Time), Google will host a special edition “Android Show” event on May 13th at 1 PM Eastern Time to unveil the future direction of the Android operating system.
This marks the first time Google has held a standalone event dedicated to Android updates prior to the official start of the Google I/O conference. The presentation will be led by Sameer Samat, President of the Android Ecosystem. According to Google, the abundance of updates necessitated the additional “Android Show” special edition event; however, the company emphasized that Android updates will still be a major focus during Google I/O 2025 itself.
Historically, “Android Show” broadcasts on YouTube have primarily catered to developers, offering a series of programs detailing various system adjustments and feature implementations within Android.
At present, Google has accelerated the rollout of new Android test versions to developers. For instance, regarding the forthcoming Android 16 operating system—slated for official release later this year—Google released the first developer preview as early as late November 2024. A platform stability version followed in March 2025, and recently, the final Beta version, which is nearly identical to the official release, has been made available. Additional feature announcements are expected to be unveiled during Google I/O 2025.
