Last year, AWS launched the AR/VR development tool Amazon Sumerian, allowing developers to create 3D, virtual reality or augmented reality on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, iOS mobile devices, and even web browser environments (VR/ AR) Application. And now, the company announced that Amazon Sumerian has officially launched.

According to Jeff Barr, chief evangelist of AWS, after the launch of the Amazon Sumerian service, developers do not need professional experiences such as 3D drawing, animation, and program development, and they can begin to develop virtual environments. After completing the project build, Amazon Sumerian will also take over the subsequent deployment process, developers do not need to develop additional code, or deal with the deployment work. The platform can also be concatenated with AWS back-end services such as AWS Lambda, AWS IoT, and AWS DynamoDB.

The tool itself adopts multi-platform operation design, adopts WebGL JavaScript API presentation technology, and is compatible with WebVR JavaScript API in VR environment. Therefore, in addition to supporting Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and other devices, this tool is also compatible with ARKit for iOS and ARCore for Android environment. In addition, browsers that support WebGL and WebVR can also be used as Amazon’s Sumerian operating environment.

In Amazon Sumerian’s user interface, developers can use visual scripting tools to set and control virtual objects.

At present, Fidelity Labs has used Amazon Sumerian to develop applications. The VR application developed by the studio allows users to interact with virtual characters and inquire about the operational performance of the company.
