Litigation fund provider IMF Bentham said on Tuesday that the company is funding a complaint against a social networking site Facebook accused of violating Australia’s privacy policy.
The company said it would fund the Australian Information Commissioner’s lawsuit against Facebook Australia, Facebook (Facebook Ireland). The lawsuit has been handled by the Sydney law firm Johnson Winter & Slattery.
IMF Bentham also said that the Australian Office of the Information Commissioner also conducted a separate investigation into the matter and may initiate a class action based on the Commissioner’s findings.
Facebook has been under rigorous scrutiny since the data scandal of Cambridge Analytica in March. Also, Facebook announced in April that Cambridge might improperly analyse information on more than 311,000 Australian users.
Facebook’s Australian branch did not immediately comment.
