The prominent password management suite Bitwarden has formally announced a recalibration of its subscription pricing. While this adjustment primarily entails a moderate price escalation, the service maintains its competitive edge by introducing flexible monthly billing options, departing from the previous requirement of mandatory annual commitments.
Under the prior structure, Bitwarden Premium for individual users was typically priced at $10 annually. Following this revision, the individual tier will cost $1.65 per month or $19.80 per annum. The Family plan, which continues to accommodate up to six members, is now set at $3.99 monthly or $47.88 annually.
Subscribers gain immediate access to an expansive suite of sophisticated features, including data breach notifications, augmented cloud storage, and an impending mechanism for phishing detection and prevention. While certain advanced capabilities are slated for eventual integration into the free tier, they remain exclusive to paid members for the foreseeable future.
Existing Premium and Family plan incumbents will receive a formal notification fifteen days prior to their next billing cycle, at which point the updated rates will take effect. To honor their long-standing user base, Bitwarden is offering a 25% loyalty discount for the inaugural renewal year to current Premium members and early adopters of the 2019 Family plan, with standard rates applying thereafter.
The current Free plan remains undisturbed by these changes, as does the self-hosted infrastructure. Notably, the recently introduced Bitwarden Lite self-hosted option continues to offer an even more streamlined deployment experience for enthusiasts and privacy advocates.
Legacy Family plans, such as those established in 2019, will be transitioned automatically to the contemporary Bitwarden Premium Family tier. Consequently, original automated renewal settings for these legacy plans will be superseded by the updated pricing and subscription model.
