Dylan Field, CEO of the design tools company Figma, has publicly stated that artificial intelligence does not pose a threat to human employment but rather opens new avenues for industrial growth. His remarks stem from a company survey conducted in September, revealing that nearly 60% of professionals have been able to engage in higher-value work thanks to AI technologies.
According to Figma’s survey of 1,199 professionals—including designers, product managers, and developers—approximately 70% of respondents reported a significant boost in productivity due to AI, while nearly 60% of product creators said they could now devote more time to high-value tasks. These findings reinforce Field’s optimistic outlook on the transformative potential of AI.
In a recent podcast, Field emphasized that the true value of AI lies in assisting, not replacing, humans. He urged people to focus on adapting to technological progress and freeing themselves from repetitive labor, rather than excessively worrying about job displacement.
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in San Francisco, Figma was once set to be acquired by Adobe for $20 billion, a deal later blocked by regulators in the United Kingdom and the European Union. Following its successful IPO in July, the company’s market capitalization has approached $30 billion, with a workforce exceeding 1,600 employees.
Field revealed that Figma continues to expand across departments. While the company explores the use of AI to enhance efficiency and reduce costs, its greater priority lies in leveraging AI to unlock new opportunities for growth.
This is not the first time Field has voiced enthusiasm for AI. He has repeatedly emphasized that AI should serve as a tool to amplify human creativity, maintaining that designers must remain the guiding force in the creative process. Technological advancement, he believes, will only broaden access to creative expression for more individuals.
As AI becomes increasingly integrated into the design industry, Figma’s stance reflects the broader technological consensus favoring human–AI collaboration and provides valuable guidance for professionals navigating the ongoing wave of digital transformation.
