DeepSearch is a recently introduced feature in ChatGPT that leverages artificial intelligence to scour the entire internet and compile tailored reports for usersβa process that may take anywhere from several minutes to nearly an hour to complete.
In a bid to remain competitive, OpenAI now plans to extend the DeepSearch feature to users of the free version of ChatGPT.
Originally available only to paid subscribers of ChatGPT and subject to usage limits, the DeepSearch function is now poised to become accessible to a broader audience. This shift comes in response to rival platforms, which have begun offering similar research capabilities free of charge. According to an OpenAI developer, while no specific timeline has been disclosed, the rollout to free-tier users appears imminent.
With DeepSearch, users can undertake more sophisticated and specialized tasks. OpenAI suggests the feature could effectively replace the role of an entry-level data analyst, delivering comprehensive and professional-grade reports through advanced reasoning and real-time web data aggregation.
However, given the substantial computational resources required to power DeepSearch, OpenAI is expected to impose usage quotas even for free usersβpotentially limiting access to one or two sessions per month.
