German is investigating a cyberattack against federal ministries, Russian group suspected
According to dpa-international, the German government has confirmed that it is investigating a cyber attack against a federal ministries computer network.
The country’s interior ministry said on Wednesday that the incident was “isolated and brought under control.” spokesman Johannes Dimroth said “The incident is being treated as a high priority and with substantial resources, government information technology, and networks” had been hit.”
Earlier Wednesday, German news agency DPA reported that hackers have used malware to attack German diplomatic and defense departments and steal data, according to security sources.
According to the DPA, the hacking seems to originate from the APT28 group, also known as “Fancy Bear,” and many experts believe it has ties to the Russian government.
