GNOME move to GitLab
The GNOME Foundation announced that it has completed the migration to GitLab. GNOME discussed the migration to GitLab last year because of the increasingly difficult maintenance of the existing code hosting facility and bug tracking system Bugzilla. GNOME is running an old, customized version of Bugzilla. Each update is very difficult. GNOME lacks the resources to continue to maintain a customized version. Another problem with Bugzilla is that it is not integrated with the code base.

In contrast, GitLab is a centralized source code hosting, problem tracking, and team communication tool that enables code contributors to communicate and collaborate more efficiently than ever before. Philip Chimento, a maintainer of GJS (JavaScript Bindings for GNOME) project, said that after switching to GitLab, he immediately noticed an increase in his contribution. He believes that GitLab really reduced the threshold of participation. GitLab also issued a statement to welcome the GNOME project.
