For years, Apple’s official retail stores have primarily offered on-site repairs for iPhones, while certain complex issues still required devices to be shipped to Apple’s repair service centers for specialized handling. In contrast, iPads and similar devices have generally not been eligible for on-site repair services.
On-site servicing can significantly reduce customer wait times. For instance, when an iPad suffers a hardware malfunction, Apple retail store technicians currently perform an inspection and confirmation before sending the device to a repair center—a process that can take seven days or longer.
Reports now suggest that, beginning in September 2025, Apple plans to introduce on-site iPad repair services in select official retail stores. Under this program, when a customer brings in a faulty iPad, in-store technicians will disassemble and inspect the device to determine whether it can be repaired quickly.
If a fast repair is feasible, the customer will receive a quote; upon approval, the technician can immediately proceed, for example, by replacing damaged components. Devices still under warranty, or covered by AppleCare+ or similar protection plans, may be repaired at no cost, depending on the circumstances.
The greatest advantage of on-site service is that customers need not endure long waits. For example, replacing a broken screen can often be completed within half an hour, allowing the customer to take the iPad home the same day.
Unfortunately, this service is expected to be available only in select markets and locations. According to French outlet iGeneration, Apple aims to roll out iPad on-site repairs at 30 official retail stores in the United States by the end of 2025, with no immediate plans to extend the program to other regions.
However, if testing proves successful, Apple may gradually expand the offering, potentially allowing customers in other countries or regions to book and receive iPad repairs directly at their local Apple retail store—eliminating the need for shipment to a service center.
