Google has announced that its content discovery platform, Google Discover, will no longer be limited to displaying news and articles from websites. Soon, it will also incorporate posts from social platforms such as Instagram and X, along with YouTube Shorts, allowing users to browse a far more diverse range of content within a single feed.
According to Google, most users have expressed a desire for Discover to bring together a broader variety of content, rather than focusing solely on news or in-depth articles. With this update, Discover will evolve into a more personalized multimedia hub—delivering not only written pieces but also trending videos, social updates, and short-form content—reducing the need for users to constantly switch between different platforms.
The rollout will begin gradually over the coming weeks. Once updated, Google Discover will offer richer interaction options, including viewing short clips directly within the feed, browsing social posts, and clicking on a creator’s name to enter a dedicated profile page for previewing more content before deciding whether to follow them.
Alongside this content expansion, Google is also introducing a new following feature. Users will be able to follow specific creators, media outlets, or channels directly within Discover. This will ensure that posts and videos from followed sources appear more frequently in their feed. The design closely mirrors the recently introduced “Preferred News Sources” setting in Google Search, giving users greater control over their personalized content.
Google also emphasized that every post or video in Discover will include a preview, enabling users to decide whether to incorporate it into their regular browsing, thereby reducing clutter from irrelevant content.
This is not the first major update to Discover. Earlier this year, Google added AI-driven summaries and experimented with automatically transforming recommended content into podcast-like audio formats for on-the-go listening. The integration of social posts and short videos now further strengthens Discover’s role as a comprehensive content aggregation platform.
As short-form video and social updates become central to the way many people consume information, this redesign not only responds to shifting market trends but also aligns with the growth strategy of YouTube Shorts. For creators, it signals that beyond YouTube and social platforms, Google Discover is becoming an essential channel for reaching new audiences.
Overall, this update transforms Google Discover from a simple news recommendation tool into a personalized, multi-format content gateway. Whether following breaking news, watching short videos, or keeping up with a favorite creator’s updates, users will be able to do it all in a single feed—bringing positive impacts both to the user experience and to the creator ecosystem.
