Some users across online communities have reported strange speaker issues with their newly purchased iPhone 17 Pro Max devices. According to their accounts, unwanted noises occur during audio playback, and the volume of normal audio output is automatically reduced without user intervention.
Similar complaints have surfaced on both Reddit and Apple’s official support forums. A technology analyst from CNET also noted that while audio playback on his iPhone 17 Pro Max sounds crisper at first, it in fact suffers from subtle distortion.
Beyond the issues of volume fluctuation and harsh, distorted sound, users have observed another anomaly: when the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s volume is set to zero and it is connected via a USB-C charger, the speakers emit a faint static noise, reminiscent of radio interference or a walkie-talkie signal. Interestingly, this problem does not occur during wireless charging.
Notably, reports of this issue date back to late September, when the iPhone 17 Pro Max was first released. Users began posting similar complaints on Apple’s support forums and Reddit, yet Apple has not issued an official response so far.
For those affected, especially in severe cases, it is advisable to contact Apple’s after-sales service for inspection and potential repair. Since Apple has not yet confirmed the root cause, no firmware fix has been released. It remains unclear whether the issue stems from hardware or software, though historically, Apple tends to resolve such problems through software updates rather than hardware recalls.
