Early in 2024, Microsoft began testing extension support for Microsoft Edge on Android. During the initial testing phase, users were required to manually enable the experimental Android extensions option before gaining access to the extensions page.
After more than a year of testing, the extension functionality for the Android version has now been officially rolled out. With this update, the stable version of Microsoft Edge can also install extensions, with the initial batch including several well-known ones such as Tampermonkey.
It is worth noting, however, that despite the stable version now supporting extensions, the extension store page remains labeled as a Beta version, indicating that Microsoft may require additional time for refinement.
This situation is not entirely unexpected, as most browser extensions are originally developed for desktop platforms, leading to potential display issues on mobile devices. The extensions supported by Microsoft have generally been optimized for mobile use, ensuring a smoother user experience.
Nevertheless, users may still encounter occasional issues in real-world usage. Such occurrences are considered normal, and in case of any difficulties, users are encouraged to provide feedback to extension developers or Microsoft for further improvements.
Steps to Install Extensions on Microsoft Edge for Android:
- Update Microsoft Edge to version 134.0.3124.57 or later.
- Open the Microsoft Edge browser, tap the menu button in the lower right corner, and select “Extensions.”
- This will open the extensions page, where you can install the desired extensions.
- To disable an extension, go to the menu button in the lower right corner, navigate to “Extensions” → “Manage Extensions,” open the menu, and uncheck the “Enable” option.
Currently supported popular extensions include Tampermonkey, Dark Reader, Bitwarden Password Manager, Immersive Translate, Cookie-Editor, and User-Agent Switcher, among others.
