In a recent interview with Nikkei, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed plans to invest in the development of proprietary artificial intelligence models, aiming to address gaps in the company’s current collaboration with OpenAI.
While Microsoft has forged a deep partnership with OpenAI in recent years—integrating its AI models across Copilot services and the Azure cloud platform—the tech giant is also clearly committed to advancing its own AI capabilities, ensuring it maintains a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving market.
During the interview, Nadella remarked that Microsoft’s in-house AI models would complement and strengthen areas where the collaboration with OpenAI falls short, ultimately delivering greater value to customers.
This approach mirrors similar strategies across the industry. Amazon, despite its close ties with Anthropic, has launched its own AI model, Nova. Google, likewise, continues to expand its proprietary Gemini model as it competes with other leading AI innovators.
As for AI-related investments, Nadella emphasized that Microsoft will continue scaling development efforts in alignment with actual market demands, expressing strong confidence in the unfolding trajectory of AI-driven applications.
