Nvidia’s internal systems were attacked by hackers
Nvidia confirmed to multiple media outlets that it was investigating an “incident.” Over the past two days, Nvidia has experienced a devastating cyberattack that “completely disrupted” the company’s internal systems. Nvidia did not elaborate on the situation but was forced to temporarily shut down parts of its systems, such as a potentially compromised email system and developer tools.
It’s unclear if any data from Nvidia has been stolen or deleted, but Nvidia spokesman Hector Marinez told The Verge:
We are investigating an incident. Our business and commercial activities continue uninterrupted. We are still working to evaluate the nature and scope of the event and don’t have any additional information to share at this time
Some media quoted people familiar with the incident as saying it was a ransomware attack. It is understood that the cyber attack suffered by Nvidia was launched by a South American group, and more than 1TB of data was leaked through a ransomware attack on Nvidia’s internal servers. Hackers appear to have gained access to Nvidia employees’ email accounts. The hacker group also released the source code for Nvidia drivers, but the real scope of the attack is unclear.
