According to a report by The Verge, OpenAI is reportedly in the early stages of developing an online social networking platform akin to “X,” though specific details remain scarce at this time.
Internally, it appears that OpenAI has already built a prototype of such a platform, one that integrates ChatGPT functionality. However, it is still unclear whether this prototype will evolve into a standalone service or be incorporated into the existing ChatGPT ecosystem.
The motivation behind constructing a social networking service may lie in OpenAI’s intent to gather authentic user interaction data to further refine and train its AI models.
Previously, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman engaged in a public exchange with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The dispute stemmed from Musk’s belief that OpenAI was deviating from its founding principles—transforming into a profit-driven entity rather than delivering artificial intelligence equitably to society. Musk even proposed a $97.4 billion acquisition of OpenAI’s assets, a bid that was ultimately rejected by Altman. In a pointed retort, Altman mockingly countered with a $9.7 billion offer to acquire Musk’s own $43 billion purchase—Twitter.
