Snap has announced a landmark partnership with AI search startup Perplexity, under which Perplexityβs advanced search technology will be directly integrated into the Snapchat platform, empowering its built-in chatbot βMy AIβ with far more sophisticated question-and-answer capabilities.
According to the agreement, Perplexity will pay Snap a total of $400 million in cash and stock. The new functionality is expected to launch officially in early 2026.
The move clearly represents Snapβs strategic step toward upgrading its social platform amid the ongoing AI wave. As major social networks race to embed personalized AI experiences, Snapβlacking its own large-scale foundational modelβhas opted to seek external collaboration to maintain its competitive edge.
Once integrated, when Snapchat users pose questions to the My AI chatbot, they will receive real-time answers compiled by Perplexityβs AI search engine, complete with verified online sources.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated that bringing Perplexityβs AI technology into Snapchat aims to make artificial intelligence βmore personal, more social, and more fun,β transforming Snapchat into a next-generation interactive social platform.
For Perplexity, investing $400 million to gain access to Snapchatβs vast, youth-oriented user base marks a pivotal move in its challenge to industry giants such as Google and OpenAI, enabling the company to rapidly expand both its reach and brand visibility in the global AI search arena.
