Snap has announced a landmark partnership with AI search startup Perplexity, under which Perplexity’s advanced search technology will be directly integrated into the Snapchat platform, empowering its built-in chatbot “My AI” with far more sophisticated question-and-answer capabilities.
According to the agreement, Perplexity will pay Snap a total of $400 million in cash and stock. The new functionality is expected to launch officially in early 2026.
The move clearly represents Snap’s strategic step toward upgrading its social platform amid the ongoing AI wave. As major social networks race to embed personalized AI experiences, Snap—lacking its own large-scale foundational model—has opted to seek external collaboration to maintain its competitive edge.
Once integrated, when Snapchat users pose questions to the My AI chatbot, they will receive real-time answers compiled by Perplexity’s AI search engine, complete with verified online sources.
Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated that bringing Perplexity’s AI technology into Snapchat aims to make artificial intelligence “more personal, more social, and more fun,” transforming Snapchat into a next-generation interactive social platform.
For Perplexity, investing $400 million to gain access to Snapchat’s vast, youth-oriented user base marks a pivotal move in its challenge to industry giants such as Google and OpenAI, enabling the company to rapidly expand both its reach and brand visibility in the global AI search arena.
