NVIDIA has recently channeled a strategic investment of $2 billion into CoreWeave, a specialist in AI cloud infrastructure, to fortify their collaborative alliance. This partnership aims to accelerate the construction of a monumental 5GW (Gigawatt) “AI Factory” ecosystem by 2030, which will integrate NVIDIA’s next-generation Rubin computing platform.
In this capital infusion, NVIDIA acquired Class A common shares of CoreWeave at a valuation of $87.20 per share. Through this intensified cooperation, CoreWeave will leverage NVIDIA’s accelerated computing technologies to architect and operate these AI factories, while NVIDIA will provide specialized expertise in supply chain logistics, including land development and power grid orchestration.
Regarding technical specifications, both entities confirmed the deployment of several generations of NVIDIA infrastructure—including the forthcoming Rubin platform, Vera CPUs, and BlueField systems—directly onto CoreWeave’s computational framework. Furthermore, they intend to rigorously test and validate CoreWeave’s AI-native software and reference architectures, such as SUNK and CoreWeave Mission Control. This initiative seeks to bolster interoperability and integrate these solutions into NVIDIA’s broader reference frameworks for cloud partners and enterprise clientele.
CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator articulated in a formal statement that the AI landscape is currently transitioning from an experimental phase to full-scale production. Consequently, the establishment of high-performance, scalable, and resilient infrastructure has become paramount.
Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey, CoreWeave originated as Atlantic Crypto, a venture focused on cryptocurrency mining. Adapting to market fluctuations, the firm successfully pivoted, repurposing its extensive GPU clusters for High-Performance Computing (HPC) services and eventually specializing in GPU-accelerated cloud services for AI infrastructure.
Following its debut on the Nasdaq in March of last year, CoreWeave announced an expansive $22.4 billion agreement with OpenAI in September, underscoring its pivotal standing in the AI compute leasing market. This direct investment from NVIDIA further solidifies CoreWeave’s position as a cornerstone partner within the NVIDIA AI ecosystem.
