In addition to the recently announced tariff hikes, the Trump administration has signed a new executive order granting TikTok an additional 75 days to continue operating in the United States, allowing more time to secure a suitable American buyer.
Previously, President Trump had indicated that he was considering offering TikTok more time to negotiate a deal, and this executive action serves to provide a broader window for such discussions to unfold.
Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that his administration remains committed to ensuring TikTok’s U.S. operations can remain intact. He noted that ongoing negotiations require additional time, hence the decision to authorize this extension, allowing TikTok’s U.S. branch to continue operations for another 75 days.
Trump also suggested that the recent tariff adjustments targeting China and other nations may have played a role in accelerating talks regarding the potential sale of TikTok’s American business.
Reports have surfaced that Amazon is now exploring participation in the acquisition, joining a growing list of interested parties. These include a consortium backed by U.S. YouTuber MrBeast with financial support from Roblox CEO David Baszucki, as well as Project Liberty — a competing bid involving the co-founder of Reddit and the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. One proposal even envisions integrating TikTok’s short-form videos into Perplexity AI, an emerging artificial intelligence startup.
