Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said a few days ago that Bitcoin will be more important than the US dollar because it will become the only global currency on the Internet within 10 years. Dorsey said: “The world ultimately will have a single currency, the internet will have a single currency. I personally believe that it will be bitcoin.”
Less than 10 years ago, bitcoin was almost unattended. Today, it has become a widely traded asset on a global scale. At the beginning of last year, Bitcoin prices were less than $1,000, and last December it hit a new high of more than $19,000. Although prices have fallen sharply this year, bitcoin prices are still higher than $9,000 today.
In November last year, Square began to support bitcoin sales, but it was limited to a specific test population. In early February of this year, Square opened this feature, and most users can buy and sell Bitcoin through Square. At the end of February, Dorsey said that Square will not only continue to support bitcoin transactions but also continue to deepen related technologies.
Dorsey said at Square’s fourth-quarter earnings conference call: “For us, Bitcoin is not limited to buying and selling. We are sure that for our industry, it is a revolutionary technology. We hope to Learn it as quickly as possible.”
Dorsey admitted on Tuesday that Bitcoin does not currently have the ability to become a valid currency. He said: “Bitcoin is still developing very slowly and the price is high, but as more people have it, these obstacles will no longer exist.”
