Linux

Linux is a Unix-like computer operating system assembled under the model of free and open-source software development and distribution. The defining component of Linux is the Linux kernel,an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. The Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to describe the operating system, which has led to some controversy. __Wiki

Advantages of Linux

  1. Low cost
The cost of the problem for a company is very important for each company, and the server investment is a small sum of money, we all think of ways to reduce the server operation and maintenance and server input costs. And Linux as an open source free operating system, no doubt get the favor of most companies. Enterprises can reduce the cost of more servers to fill other aspects of the lack of funds.
  2. Network services
Linux built a very rich free web server software, database and web development tools. Such as Apache, Sendmail, VSFtp, SSH, MySQL, PHP and JSP. In recent years, more and more enterprises to see these powerful Linux features, the use of Linux as a full range of network servers.
  3. Hardware support
Since most of the Linux kernel is written in C and uses a portable Unix standard application interface, it supports system platforms such as i386, Alpha, AMD and Sparc, as well as from personal computers to mainframes, Embedded systems, including a variety of hardware devices.
  4. Stability
The source code for the Linux kernel is an optimized design of the standard 32-bit (64-bit 64-bit CPU) computer to ensure the stability of its system. Because of the stability of Linux, it makes some of the host to install Linux as bad as the perennial machine without downtime.
  5. Safety
For enterprises, data security is also very important, in recent years, enterprises and managers are slowly began to focus on information security issues. The birth of the Linux system is the source of information security, the father of Linux ,Linus Torvalds, has always been a famous hacker. In the world of hackers, we all advocate sharing, free, open source concept. So in Linux updates, vulnerability disclosure and patching mostly by some of these organizations are going on. In this kind of effort, Linux in the basic security and application security are better than other systems.
