Bloomberg has reported that Apple is internally developing a tool codenamed “Veritas,” designed to test the performance of the latest version of Siri. Conceptually, the tool resembles ChatGPT, but it is intended exclusively for internal use, helping Apple’s engineering teams accelerate testing and fine-tuning.
“Veritas” is not envisioned as a consumer-facing product, but rather as a platform for employees to simulate interactions and provide feedback. Through this system, Siri will be able to demonstrate more personalized capabilities, such as retrieving emails and messages stored on a user’s device, or even carrying out advanced app functions like photo editing.
According to Bloomberg, the tool also serves as Apple’s testing ground for evaluating whether a “chatbot-style interface” has genuine long-term value.
The disclosure suggests that Apple is moving closer to delivering on its WWDC 2024 promise of unveiling a “next-generation Siri.” Although the company announced in March that updates would be delayed—prompting doubts about its progress in AI development—current signs indicate that Siri’s integration has now reached a more mature stage.
From its earliest articulation of “Apple Intelligence,” Apple positioned its ambition as offering a more refined, privacy-centric AI experience, rather than simply chasing the large-scale natural language models of its rivals. Yet the initial rollout delivered only functional, unremarkable features. The truly transformative “everyday Siri” is not expected to begin materializing until 2026.
Apple has not relied solely on its in-house models. Reports have suggested possible partnerships with OpenAI or Anthropic, while more recent indications point to a preference for collaborating with Google. By incorporating its Gemini series models, Apple appears to be adopting a more pragmatic strategy of integration to compensate for current gaps and advance its broader AI vision.
