Amazon has officially relaunched its cloud gaming and streaming service, Amazon Luna, which had been teased for a major overhaul earlier in October. The revamped platform not only introduces a completely refreshed design but also marks a significant strategic shift—making Luna a free benefit for Amazon Prime members and debuting an all-new multiplayer mode called “GameNight.”
Unlike the previous iteration of Luna or most other game streaming services, “GameNight” serves as the centerpiece of Amazon’s new differentiation strategy.
This mode highlights a collection of party games designed for shared entertainment, with one key innovation: players can now control the games directly through their smartphones. This design choice dramatically lowers the barrier to entry, allowing friends and family to join in effortlessly—no additional game controllers required, just a mobile phone.
At launch, “GameNight” features popular titles such as The Jackbox Party Pack 9, as well as reimagined versions of Tetris Effect: Connected and Angry Birds.
Notably, the collection also includes an Amazon original, Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg, in which players engage in lively courtroom debates presided over by an AI-powered virtual judge modeled after Snoop Dogg himself.
Beyond “GameNight,” the updated Luna continues to support traditional controller-based gameplay, compatible with both Bluetooth devices and Amazon’s proprietary Luna Controller (Wi-Fi).
To complement the relaunch, Amazon has expanded the Prime free game library within Luna to include several major titles, such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and Hogwarts Legacy—the same blockbusters recently added to Xbox Game Pass.
For Prime subscribers, this means access to top-tier AAA titles via cloud streaming—without the need for a separate Game Pass subscription—a powerful incentive to explore the service.
For those seeking a broader selection, Amazon offers the Luna Premium plan (formerly Luna+), available for $10 per month, unlocking an even more extensive catalog of games.
Overall, the redesigned Luna represents a highly appealing offering for Prime members. While cloud streaming may still face occasional latency or buffering challenges, the inclusion of casual, phone-controlled “GameNight” experiences—combined with the ability to play major titles at no extra cost—significantly enhances the overall value of an Amazon Prime subscription.
