In addition to recent reports suggesting a potential $25 billion investment in OpenAI, positioning itself to surpass Microsoft as the company’s largest shareholder, SoftBank has now unveiled “Cristal Intelligence,” a comprehensive enterprise AI integration service. Simultaneously, SoftBank has announced a joint venture with OpenAI, named “SB OpenAI Japan.”
Cristal Intelligence will operate as an integrated solutions provider, with SoftBank committing an annual investment of $3 billion to deploy OpenAI’s AI-powered solutions across its subsidiaries and affiliated companies. This initiative establishes SoftBank as the first global conglomerate to implement Cristal Intelligence on a large scale, providing its entire workforce with access to tools such as ChatGPT Enterprise.
Furthermore, SoftBank will integrate Cristal Intelligence into its Arm Japan operations, enabling the adoption of OpenAI’s cutting-edge AI technologies to enhance overall productivity and automate more than 100 million business workflows.
Through the SB OpenAI Japan joint venture, SoftBank and OpenAI will collaborate to offer Cristal Intelligence to businesses across Japan. The new entity will be structured as a 50-50 joint venture, fully incorporated into the SoftBank Group ecosystem, with a strategic focus on accelerating enterprise growth through AI-driven innovation.
As part of this partnership, OpenAI will contribute its expertise in advanced AI research, technology, and engineering support, while SoftBank will leverage its extensive salesforce, engineering talent, and deep market insights to effectively scale AI solutions across Japan. Moreover, the Arm computing platform will play a pivotal role in delivering the necessary performance, efficiency, and scalability required to power AI-driven cloud and edge computing services.
