The well-known cloud storage provider Dropbox, once leveraging its expertise in data storage to introduce the password management app Dropbox Passwords, has now officially announced the app’s complete discontinuation. The service will be terminated, and all associated user data will be permanently deleted.
According to an official statement from the company, Dropbox Passwords will cease operations on October 28, 2025. On that date, the browser extension, dark web monitoring feature, and mobile applications will all be decommissioned, and any remaining user data will be irrevocably erased.
For users relying on this password manager, the immediate priority is to back up and migrate their data without delay. Failure to do so may result in the loss of critical login credentials, which could significantly disrupt access to important services.
Dropbox has mentioned a 50% discount on a one-year subscription to 1Password, but this offer originates from 1Password itself and is not a result of a formal partnership with Dropbox. The discount is available to all users, regardless of whether they previously used Dropbox Passwords.
For detailed instructions on how to export and migrate data, users are advised to consult the official Dropbox Passwords notification. In addition to 1Password, users are free to choose from a range of alternative password managers—both paid and free—or even rely on the built-in password management features offered by modern web browsers.
