Google announced today that it is giving all eligible college students in the United States a full year of Google AI Pro at no cost. The service, which normally costs $19.99 per month, includes four times the usage limits for Google Gemini, access to Gemini Spark, and integration with apps such as Gemini for Gmail and Gemini for Docs – along with a generous 5TB of storage.
International Students Receive Google AI Plus Instead
College students located in supported countries and regions outside the United States can instead claim a free year of Google AI Plus, which includes Gemini Omni, four times the standard Gemini usage limits, and 400GB of storage.
Enrollment Deadline and What Happens After the Free Year
Students can register for the free AI plan on Google’s website through December 31, 2026. Once the free subscription period ends, Google will automatically begin charging $19.99 per month for Google AI Pro, or $4.99 per month (or the local currency equivalent) for Google AI Plus, unless the user manually cancels beforehand.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the free AI plan, Google requires that students be at least 18 years of age and hold a personal Google Account. Activation requires verification through a valid school-issued email address. Based on Google’s past promotional programs, it seems plausible that the company may later require students to submit additional documentation – such as proof of current school enrollment – for further verification.
