Google has announced a new AI video editing feature called Video Remix, coming to Google Photos. The feature is powered by Gemini Omni, the multimodal AI model Google first unveiled in May. Unlike traditional video editing software, Video Remix requires no complex workflows. Users can reshape, edit, and transform video memories through simple instructions and built-in templates.
How to Access Video Remix
Video Remix is integrated into the Create tab in Google Photos. Google provides a rich library of preset templates there. That makes the feature accessible even to users unfamiliar with AI prompting.
What Video Remix Can Do
According to Google’s official demonstrations, the feature supports a wide range of creative transformations. For example, users can overlay a watercolor painting effect on an ordinary video. They can also relight a dark scene with natural morning light. Alternatively, they can swap a clip’s background for an entirely different environment. Google states the system processes instructions and generates the edited video in just a few seconds.
Gemini Omni: The Model Behind the Feature
Gemini Omni is the model behind Video Remix. It replaces Google’s earlier Nano Banana and Veo 3.1 video generation models as the new primary foundation. As a native multimodal model, Gemini Omni accepts a broader range of input formats.
Its most significant technical advance is a substantially improved understanding of real-world physical laws, such as gravity and kinetic energy. As a result, the scene transitions and motion it generates feel noticeably more natural and convincing.
Digital Avatars and SynthID Watermarking
In addition, users can create a personal digital avatar and seamlessly insert it into existing videos. To guard against deepfake misuse, Google applies its SynthID digital watermark automatically. All content generated through Gemini Omni receives this invisible signature.
Availability: Paid Plans and Select Countries
Video Remix will be part of Google’s premium subscription ecosystem. Starting today, the feature rolls out first to subscribers on the Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans. The initial launch covers specific countries, including the United States, India, Japan, Mexico, and South Korea. Google expects to expand availability to more global markets over time.
