Israel announces to investigate Facebook over Cambridge Analytica data breach

Ddos March 24, 2018 2 minutes read

Israel’s Justice Ministry said on the 22nd that it has begun investigating the accident of the leakage of Facebook user data on the US social media platform to confirm whether the Israeli user information has been “stolen”. Israel’s Justice Ministry said that its subsidiary, the Israel Ministry’s Privacy Protection Authority, has informed Facebook that it will illegally “stealing” personal information on Facebook’s citizens and other possible violations of Israel’s privacy laws.

The Israeli Justice Ministry emphasizes that according to Israel’s privacy laws, personal information and data can be used for specific purposes only with the consent of the individual.

Recently, Facebook faced one of the most serious user data breaches since its creation. According to a number of media reports, Facebook’s 50 million users’ information data was acquired and used by Cambridge Analytics. Up to now, relevant government departments in the United States, Britain, and Brazil have announced their involvement in accident investigations, and countries such as Germany and India have responded to the accident.

Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg responded to the personal data leakage of Facebook users on the 21st and acknowledged that the company has made mistakes in protecting user data and promised to take measures to deal with it.

The outside world questioned that the leaked Facebook user information was used to push advertisements for the target audience in the 2016 US presidential election.

Cambridge Analytics has been active in small and large elections and referendum activities for several years. The company’s promotion of its “data-driven” campaign advocacy strategy can help customers win elections. The official website of the company’s official website has a picture of Trump’s presidential campaign.

According to Israeli media reports, about 200,000 U.S. citizens currently live in Israel and they have the right to vote in the U.S. presidential election. The report also stated that during the 2016 US presidential election, Trump’s campaign team spent heavily to win a large number of votes in the hands of U.S. citizens living in Israel, and many of these people came from the “swing state.”
