Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports that the launch of the long-anticipated MacBook Pro with an OLED display—originally expected in 2026—may be delayed until late 2026 or even early 2027.
Earlier market forecasts suggested that Apple would follow its usual product release cadence, unveiling a MacBook Pro equipped with the M5 processor by the end of this year, followed a year later by a new model featuring the M6 chip and an OLED display. However, new information indicates that the M5-powered MacBook Pro has been pushed back to spring 2026, consequently postponing the debut of the OLED model.
The upcoming MacBook Pro will feature a slimmer chassis, the Apple M6 processor, and an OLED display—a combination Gurman believes will deliver innovations “capable of driving the entire industry forward.”
According to recent intelligence obtained by research firm Omdia from the supply chain, Samsung has secured the first batch of OLED display panel orders for the new MacBook Pro. Nevertheless, Omdia maintains that while an OLED model could still arrive in 2026, its actual release will depend on panel yield rates, supply stability, and the maturity of the new design at mass production scale.
Beyond the display upgrade, the new MacBook Pro is expected to abandon the current “notch” design in favor of a pill-shaped cutout similar to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. This would not only offer a more expansive and uniform visual experience but could also introduce a fresh interaction paradigm for macOS, further unifying design language between Apple’s laptops and smartphones.
The adoption of OLED technology promises deeper contrast, a wider color gamut, and improved power efficiency. For professional users—whether in image creation, video editing, or demanding computational tasks—this translates into more accurate visuals and longer battery life. Coupled with the anticipated performance and efficiency gains of the M6 processor, the overall user experience is poised for a significant leap forward.
Apple has yet to comment on the exact launch schedule or design specifics of the OLED MacBook Pro. Market watchers believe that even with a delayed timeline, the combination of OLED display technology and the Dynamic Island design will make the new model one of the most noteworthy MacBook upgrades in recent years.
