According to a support bulletin issued by Microsoft, the company has decided to cease development of the lightweight mail client Outlook Lite as of October 6, 2025. From that date forward, users will no longer be able to install Outlook Lite on their devices. Those who already have the app installed may continue to use it, though Microsoft has made clear that the application will be gradually phased out.
Outlook Lite was introduced only three years ago, with the intention of offering a smaller, streamlined, and more responsive mail client for certain regions. While the standard version of Outlook provides a wealth of features, it also demands significantly more hardware resources to run smoothly.
Following the release of the Lite edition, many users abandoned the full version in favor of the leaner alternative. Yet Microsoft’s announcement gave no explicit reason for discontinuing Outlook Lite. Some speculate that the decision may be linked to the difficulty of integrating Microsoft Copilot and promoting AI-driven services within the pared-down framework.
In its notice, Microsoft recommends that users migrate to the standard Outlook Mobile application. Android users, for example, can simply download Outlook Mobile from the Google Play Store and reconnect their email accounts.
Of course, those unwilling to switch to Outlook Mobile may opt for a variety of other email clients. There remains no shortage of free alternatives capable of replacing Outlook Lite.
