According to foreign media reports on January 8, Microsoft released security update Windows Meltdown, Specter KB4056892 on some AMD devices system (especially the old AMD Athlon 64) had a negative impact. Relevant users to Microsoft on the details of the impact of the feedback, but there is no exact investigation of the situation and the official response.

The recently disclosed Meltdown and Specter loopholes pose a number of issues for users and chip vendors. It is noteworthy that AMD’s CPUs are not vulnerable to Meltdown vulnerabilities but may be subject to specter attacks. At present, technology giants such as Apple, Cisco, and Microsoft have acknowledged their product problems and have introduced security patches in succession.

However, the relevant security experts believe that these patches may be repaired equipment will have a significant impact on the performance. However, these claims have been denied by Intel, Intel confirmed that after extensive testing by Apple, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft to assess the safety updates will not have a negative impact on system performance.

Some users claim that the security update for Windows, KB4056892, suppresses computers that are powered by AMD (and especially Athlon) drives that prevent the system from starting, displaying only un-animated Windows icons. After a few failed to start the rollback, or display error 0x800f0845. Athlon-powered systems stopped working after the patches were installed, but the point was that the fixes did not create recovery points so that rollbacks could not even be restored in some cases.

Still others have reported that even reinstalling Windows 10 does not solve the problem.

In response to this situation, the affected users will need to disable Windows Update, but the awkward situation of AMD users ultimately only Microsoft can solve. However, Microsoft has not responded to user feedback on this page.
