NASA will use AI and Blockchain for Unmanned Spacecraft

According to the Futurism website, as unmanned spacecraft explode further and further away, unmanned spacecraft will face an increasingly serious problem: With the distance from Earth, information and instructions are transmitted, the time required will be longer and longer. Such a lag in time can make it even more difficult or even impossible for spacecraft to evade the threat of rapid movements – such as space debris – or to quickly seize the opportunity to collect unexpected data (such as flying meteorites).

 

NASA will fund the University of Akron in Ohio to fund research projects that address the issue. The research team will use deep learning artificial intelligence techniques that run on Ethereum’s blockchain network to help the spacecraft “think” on its own and respond to such issues.

Jin Wei Kocsis, an assistant professor at Akron University and head of the project, said in a press release: “The technology I hope to develop will recognize environmental threats and evade them and will do many things automatically I am honored to have the work endorsed by NASA and I am very excited about continuing to research the technology. ”

NASA will provide $333,000 in funding for the project for a period of three years, which will allow the Orchids team to continue its study of distributed computing capable of handling “massive high-dimensional data” that may be collected by deep-space satellites The internet. In addition to researching technologies such as the Ethereum blockchain, the Kirkist team will also develop an AI solution that uses “deep learning techniques and logical methods of chess.”

Such technologies are crucial to the exploration of space in the decades to come. As NASA is planning the earliest mission of exploring Centaurus and beyond in 2069, unmanned spacecraft that think about and respond to their surroundings on their own will help ensure that humans gather information in the deep universe far from Earth ability. There are many unexpected challenges in space that will help spacecraft reach their destination intact.
