Following the announcement of the upcoming GPT-5 large natural language model, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has revealed that GPT-5 will incorporate the recently launched o3 AI model, which will also be available to all users for free.
According to Altman, the future of AI model development lies in enabling systems to autonomously determine which model to utilize, eliminating the need for manual user selection. Consequently, the forthcoming GPT-4.5 large natural language model update will be OpenAI’s last non-chain-of-thought model.
With the integration of the o3 AI model into GPT-5, the system will automatically switch between models based on the user’s query. For instance, GPT-5 will be employed for in-depth reasoning when higher inference capabilities are required, while the o3 model will handle simple, straightforward questions for faster response times.
OPENAI ROADMAP UPDATE FOR GPT-4.5 and GPT-5:
We want to do a better job of sharing our intended roadmap, and a much better job simplifying our product offerings.
We want AI to “just work” for you; we realize how complicated our model and product offerings have gotten.
We hate…

This development signifies that users will no longer need to manually select different model versions, streamlining the process of seeking answers using AI services.
Furthermore, Altman clarified that the o3 model will not be offered as a standalone model like o3-mini. Instead, it will be integrated into the GPT-5 model. OpenAI plans to provide unrestricted access to GPT-5 under standard settings for all users, with built-in safeguards to prevent misuse. Paid users will have the option to access higher intelligence tiers of GPT-5.
However, Altman did not disclose the anticipated release dates for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, only indicating that they will be launched in the coming weeks or months.
