Qualcomm has officially completed its acquisition of Autotalks, an Israeli designer of automotive safety chips. This strategic move, initially announced in May 2023, aims to bolster Qualcomm’s profitability within the intelligent vehicle market.
While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, earlier reports estimated the acquisition at approximately $350 million to $400 million.
This acquisition will enable Qualcomm to enhance the connectivity capabilities of its Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform, thereby improving the safety features of intelligent vehicles. The platform will support both Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) and Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) standards, ensuring that vehicles designed with the Snapdragon Digital Chassis can seamlessly integrate with global connected car services.
“We are thrilled to welcome Autotalks’ highly skilled and experienced team to Qualcomm Technologies. As automotive systems grow more complex, the importance of safety features has never been higher. Together, we will deliver reliable, cutting-edge solutions to enhance road safety and optimize traffic efficiency,” said Nakul Duggal, Group GM, Automotive and Industrial & Embedded IoT, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Furthermore, Hagai Zyss, former CEO of Autotalks, will transition to Qualcomm as Vice President of Product Management, ensuring the continued advancement of Autotalks’ ongoing DSRC and C-V2X standard design projects.
