As Samsung prepares to unveil its latest innovations at next week’s Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, anticipation is mounting not only for the debuts of the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and the new Galaxy Watch8 series—including the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2—but also for the possible premiere of the long-rumored tri-fold smartphone, the “Galaxy G Fold.”
According to details uncovered by Android Authority through analysis of One UI 8 system code, Samsung appears to have developed dedicated animations specifically for the Galaxy G Fold, suggesting that the device adopts a folding mechanism markedly different from Huawei’s design.
Rather than emulating the Z-shaped fold seen in Huawei’s Mate XT, the Galaxy G Fold reportedly employs the Flex G configuration—previously teased by Samsung—wherein the left and right displays fold inward toward the central screen. This approach enhances protection for the internal display while simplifying the hinge structure, thereby improving overall durability and mechanical stability.
However, such a design may lead to a noticeably thicker form factor when folded. Despite this, the user experience is expected to feel more intuitive and natural. Previous rumors suggest that the device could feature a 6.54-inch outer display and an expansive 9.96-inch inner screen.
It remains uncertain whether Samsung will officially unveil the Galaxy G Fold during the upcoming event. The company may instead offer a teaser in a “One More Thing” segment, with a full reveal anticipated later this year—possibly by the end of Q3 or early Q4.
Nonetheless, striking the right balance between foldable architecture, thickness management, durability, and everyday usability continues to be a shared challenge for Samsung and other players in the industry.
