The office of U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has released a report sharply criticizing the tax reduction policies outlined in the Republican-proposed “Big Beautiful Bill.” Using concrete data, the report demonstrates that the tax breaks granted to technology giants such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet—Google’s parent company—would be sufficient to fund food assistance (SNAP) or healthcare coverage (Medicaid) for millions of American families.
Senator Warren’s report meticulously details the potential benefits to major tech corporations, translating these figures into equivalent social welfare costs to highlight the skewed priorities embedded in the legislation.
- Microsoft: The report notes that in 2026 alone, Microsoft would receive an estimated $12.5 billion in tax breaks. Redirecting that amount could provide food assistance to 5.2 million people, Medicaid coverage for 1.6 million adults (or 3.8 million children), or reduce Affordable Care Act (ACA) premiums for 1.9 million Americans.
- Amazon: According to Warren, Amazon is set to receive $16 billion in tax reductions this year—enough to fund SNAP benefits for 6.6 million people, Medicaid coverage for 2 million adults (or 5.4 million children), or reduce ACA premiums for 2.4 million Americans.
- Alphabet (Google): Alphabet’s 2024 tax breaks amount to an even greater $17.9 billion, which could translate into food aid for 7.5 million people, health coverage for 2.3 million adults (or 5.4 million children), or ACA premium relief for 2.8 million Americans.
The report also highlights that in 2026, corporations collectively will receive $137 billion in tax breaks, while in 2027, an additional $132 billion will flow to the wealthiest 1% of Americans.
In her statement, Senator Warren concluded:
“Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are knocking millions of Americans off their health insurance and ripping away food assistance from families — all so they can fund giant tax cuts for billionaires and giant corporations. This is a matter of priorities: Trump and Republicans are fighting for their billionaire buddies, while Democrats are fighting for American families.”
