Recently, much attention has been given to the announcement that support for Windows 10 will officially end in October 2025. However, this primarily pertains to the consumer editions. Notably, Microsoft is offering an additional year of security updates for individual and home users through the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.
Yet, another significant version is also approaching its end-of-life this fall: Windows 10 LTSB 2015—the Long-Term Servicing Branch released in 2015 for enterprise customers. Designed with a ten-year support cycle, this edition is now nearing the completion of that decade-long promise.
Windows 10 LTSB 2015 was built on the original release of Windows 10 (Version 1507). While support for its consumer counterpart has long since ended, the LTSB channel has continued to receive critical security updates and patches.
Historically, Microsoft’s LTSB versions offered a maximum of ten years of support. However, this policy has since evolved, with later LTSC versions—such as Windows 11 LTSC 2024—receiving only five years of support, slated to end in October 2029.
Older editions, like Windows 10 LTSB 2015, retain their original ten-year lifecycle, but the end is now imminent. Once support ends, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or bug fixes for this version.
Microsoft strongly advises organizations still running this edition to begin planning their upgrades promptly to ensure a smooth transition before support concludes. Failing to do so may expose enterprises to security vulnerabilities and compliance risks.
Here is a summary of the lifecycle timelines for Windows 10 and 11 Long-Term Servicing editions:
- Windows 10 LTSB 2015: Released July 29, 2015 — Support ends October 14, 2025
- Windows 10 LTSB 2016: Released August 2, 2016 — Support ends October 13, 2026
- Windows 10 LTSC 2019: Released November 13, 2018 — Support ends January 9, 2029
- Windows 10 LTSC 2021: Released November 16, 2021 — Support ends January 12, 2027
- Windows 11 LTSC 2024: Released October 1, 2024 — Support ends October 9, 2029
