When Microsoft released the Windows 11 24H2 update in 2024, it was rolled out first to Microsoft Copilot+ PCs — and now, history appears set to repeat itself. Reports indicate that Microsoft is preparing to launch the Windows 11 26H1 update.
The Windows 11 26H1 update is expected to debut in the spring or summer of next year, and, once again, it will be exclusive to Microsoft Copilot+ PCs powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 processors. Other PCs will have to wait until the Windows 11 26H2 update, slated for release in October 2026.
This release cadence once again disrupts Microsoft’s existing Windows 11 update rhythm. In the past, the company promised two feature updates per year for Windows 10, before eventually shifting to a single annual update, which became the familiar 2XH2 model.
Now, it appears that Microsoft is developing the 26H1 build primarily to align with Qualcomm’s launch of the X2 chip series, serving as a platform support update rather than a major feature release. In essence, most of its functionalities are expected to be backported from 24H2, meaning the update will hold little practical significance for users already running 24H2 or 25H2.
Ultimately, all new features will arrive with the Windows 11 26H2 release in the fall of next year, so regardless of whether users run ARM or x86 processors, those seeking the next major enhancements will have to wait until the 26H2 feature update becomes available.
