Microsoft Releases the Windows 11 2026 Update
Microsoft has released the Windows 11 2026 Update, also known as version 26H2. For most compatible PCs, the move needs no full reinstall of the system.
The required components already arrived with earlier updates. A small enablement package simply switches them on. Usually, one restart is enough.
Who Can Get Version 26H2
The update is available for eligible devices running Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. All three versions share one code base. Therefore, Microsoft does not need to download a large part of the system again.
A Gradual Rollout
Microsoft is rolling out 26H2 in stages. Users can speed things up. In Settings, they can open Windows Update and turn on the option to get the latest updates as soon as they are available.
However, Microsoft may hold back the install on devices with known compatibility issues.
What Is New in 26H2
The new version turns on features that Microsoft had already added step by step to 24H2 and 25H2. The changes include more Start menu settings. They also bring improvements to the taskbar, search, and File Explorer. Some of these features appeared earlier.
A Fresh Support Clock
Moving to 26H2 also restarts the support period. Windows 11 Home and Pro will get updates for 24 months. Enterprise and Education will get them for 36 months.
In its official announcement, Microsoft advises businesses to test 26H2 on a small group of computers first.
Rolling Back If Problems Appear
If problems arise after installation, Windows lets users roll back the update. In that case, the PC returns to the previous version.
