Revamped "Start" Menu Interface
Microsoft has recently released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4950 to users enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, introducing a redesigned “Start” menu interface and an enhanced file-sharing feature.
While the new “Start” menu retains the core navigation experience, it features a refined app arrangement layout. Users can now choose between the traditional alphabetical sorting method and a new categorization system that groups apps by type—reminiscent of app organization on mobile devices.
The latter approach offers a more intuitive and mobile-friendly experience, allowing users to quickly locate apps based on categories. However, the current preview build does not yet support custom category creation, which may be introduced in the final release.
Additionally, Microsoft has hinted at further refinements to the “Start” menu, including the potential addition of a sidebar for real-time notifications and updates, as well as enhancements to streamline interactions with Android devices for a more seamless cross-platform experience.

The update also introduces an improved file-sharing mechanism that allows users to share documents via drag-and-drop gestures. By selecting, long-pressing, and dragging a file to the upper portion of the screen, a contextual menu appears, enabling users to share the file via “Phone Link” or other compatible apps. Additionally, the “More” option allows users to explore alternative sharing methods for greater flexibility.
