As AI technology increasingly permeates diverse professional environments, Zoom has announced an expansion of its AI Companion capabilities with the introduction of a new add-on serviceβCustom AI Companionβwhich brings agent-like intelligence to users. Designed to facilitate seamless integration across tools, it aims to help both enterprises and individuals overcome workflow silos and enhance daily productivity.
A standout feature of this latest update is its support for 16 popular third-party business applications, including ServiceNow, Jira, Asana, and Box. This allows users to manage project coordination, document organization, and task tracking directly within the Zoom environmentβeliminating the need for constant context-switching between windows or platforms. The Custom AI Companion also supports cross-platform functionality, now extending to meeting services like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, with support for Cisco Webex slated for future release.
Zoom states that AI Companion now offers real-time assistance by automatically summarizing meetings, extracting key discussion points, and updating CRM systems, project management tools, or document platforms based on conversation contentβenhancing workflows in sales, customer service, and project management scenarios.
For instance, when integrated with Jira or Asana, AI Companion enables teams to update task progress, assign responsibilities, and set deadlinesβall during a live meetingβeliminating the inefficiencies of manual cross-system operations. With connections to platforms such as Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, and Notion, AI Companion can retrieve relevant documents on demand and generate or update materials based on meeting discussions.
Furthermore, through integration with Workday, AI Companion supports streamlined HR operations, including job description summaries, applicant screening, and onboarding workflows, significantly improving recruitment efficiency.
To meet the varied needs of different industries and meeting contexts, Zoom also offers 11 pre-built meeting summary templates tailored for education, consulting, project management, and more. Users can quickly generate reports customized by tone, structure, and objective. Through the Zoom Clips feature, users can create personalized virtual avatars that automatically generate instructional or presentation videos, with multilingual supportβbroadening use cases to include education, marketing, and internal training.
For in-person meetings, Zoom now supports voice recording, automated summaries, and to-do list generationβensuring comprehensive documentation and enhanced post-meeting collaboration, even without video conferencing.
While the Custom AI Companion requires a separate subscription ($12 per user per month), Zoom has also made a suite of core AI Companion features available at no extra cost to all paid Zoom Workplace users. These include real-time Q&A during calls, chat text summarization, transcript integration, agenda generation, and cross-platform summary sharing (e.g., with upcoming support for Microsoft Teams).
Chief Product Officer Smita Hashim noted that with the advent of the agent-based AI Companion, Zoom is evolving from a standalone meeting tool into an intelligent collaboration platform that spans the entire work lifecycleβempowering users to save time and focus on value creation.
