Previously available for iOS devices, the 3DMark performance benchmarking tool has now been officially released for the macOS platform, as announced by UL Solutions. This native macOS version addresses the specific performance testing needs of Mac devices.
According to UL Solutions, since the launch of the Steel Nomad Light benchmark, approximately one in six submissions via the iOS version of 3DMark originated from Mac devices powered by Apple Silicon. However, due to the fundamental hardware differences between Macs and iOS devices—such as varying display refresh rates—these results often lacked accuracy and were sometimes adversely affected.
To resolve this, UL Solutions has introduced 3DMark for macOS, a version natively compatible with Apple Silicon-powered Macs. This release enables more precise and reliable benchmarking, supporting tests including Wild Life Extreme, Solar Bay, and Steel Nomad Light—with the full Steel Nomad benchmark, previously exclusive to the Windows version, now also available.
These benchmarks are executed using macOS’s Metal API, ensuring that the results are meaningfully comparable across platforms, including Windows, iOS, and Android.
Just like its Windows counterpart, 3DMark for macOS includes Exploration Mode for both Steel Nomad and Steel Nomad Light. Users can store their benchmarking results within their personal accounts and customize tests for various display resolutions. Additionally, the tool supports looped benchmark execution to monitor performance trends during extended usage, and it also features HDR mode to enhance the visual fidelity of test scenes.
