HackerRank foreign recruitment site conducted a developer survey last year, the survey focused on the developer’s development skills, educational background, the current role of content, to understand the developer’s work intentions and the status quo. The survey received about 25,000 developers’ responses, both in-person and in-school students. On March 1, 2018, HackerRank released a high-level report on the findings.
The following excerpt some of the more interesting results for reference.
1, start programming the age
About 65% of respondents started coding at the age of 16-20 (mostly from school).
2, looking for work, what are the most concerned about the company?
For students, growth/study space, work/life balance, work fun are three things that they prioritize when looking for a job.
For practitioners, good work/life balance, growth/study space, and payroll are the three most important factors they consider.
3, the most popular programming language
For students, they consider C the most popular programming language, followed by C ++, Java, Python, and JavaScript.
For practitioners, Java is one of their most popular programming languages, followed by JavaScript, C, C ++, and Python.
4, favorite programming language
For students in school, the top five favorite programming languages are Python, C ++, Java, C, and Javascript.
For development practitioners, the top five programming languages are the same as above but rank differently. Python is still the most popular language, followed by Java, Javascript, C and C ++.
