In recent days, the situation in Syria has been rekindled. On Thursday, two Syrian citizens were sued for attacking Harvard University, U.S. Marine Corps, and news media outlets like Washington Post, the AP, CNN. Both Ahmad ‘Umar Agha and Firas Dardar belong to the hacker group “Syrian Electronic Army” which hacked computers to spread propaganda supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The case was recently filed in the Federal Court of Virginia. Charged with conspiracy and malicious stealing identity.
By using phishing attack, two attackers gather the email login credentials. Their attacks have yielded some results. Hackers have published news content on Reuter’s reporter podcasts and Twitter accounts on news agencies. They also defrauded to obtain the user account and password of the White House staff and then used the account to obtain more user credential information from the White House affiliate account.
Both Ahmad ‘Umar Agha and Firas Dardar have no attorneys, and the Syrian Embassy in the United States has been closed since 2014.
