Transferring eSIM data between different iPhones has long been a seamless process. However, migrating an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android device has traditionally proven far more cumbersome, typically requiring users to contact their carrier for assistance.
This process may soon become significantly more convenient. An analysis of the SIM Manager in the beta version of Android 16 reveals that Google has added an option for seamless eSIM migration from iPhone to Android.
Based on Google’s descriptions, it is speculated that Apple may introduce a new “Quick Transfer” feature for eSIMs within the Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone menu in iOS 19. This feature would allow users to wirelessly transmit eSIM data over a local network, with the option to fall back on QR code-based transfer if wireless transmission fails.
Additional text strings in the SIM Manager include:
- On the other device (referring to the iPhone), navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Transfer to Android
- Still can’t connect wirelessly? Make sure your other device is running iOS 19 or later.
Clearly, this technology requires joint development by Apple and Google, and based on current indicators, their collaboration appears to be nearing completion. Once finalized, users will no longer need to contact their carriers to transfer eSIM profiles from iPhone to Android.
As a reciprocal measure, Google may also be developing functionality to facilitate easier eSIM migration from Android to iPhone, further streamlining device transitions and minimizing the inconveniences associated with SIM data transfer.
Apple has yet to officially comment on this potential feature, but it is widely expected that more details will be unveiled during the upcoming WWDC 2025 event.
