According to a recent Microsoft announcement, developers are adding an interactive canvas to Excel Copilot AI. This innovative tool empowers users to generate visual reports from workbook data using intuitive natural language prompts. Furthermore, the canvas remains dynamically linked to the original workbook. Therefore, it automatically refreshes whenever the underlying data changes. Currently, this sophisticated capability is accessible to Microsoft 365 Insider participants through a beta release.
Conversational Report Generation
The interactive canvas excels at creating executive briefings, project updates, or status reports. After generating a report, users can continuously refine the layout through natural language dialogue. They can highlight distinct data insights or modify presentation styles without starting over. Microsoft notes that this transforms raw workbook data into highly digestible dynamic views. Consequently, professionals can effortlessly share these interactive visualizations with colleagues.
Mastering Repetitive Processes
Microsoft also unveiled additional productivity features for Excel Copilot. For instance, a new skill-building function creates reusable workflows. It bases these skills on user-provided instructions, prompts, or practical examples. Moreover, a skill-recording feature allows users to physically demonstrate a specific process. Subsequently, Excel Copilot automatically translates those actions into a reproducible skill.
Streamlining Data Import and Cleanup
The new Get Data function enables users to verbally describe desired data sources and formats. This drastically reduces the steps required to build manual Power Query queries. Meanwhile, the Clean Data utility swiftly identifies duplicate records and formatting inconsistencies. It then proactively suggests effective correction methods to ensure data integrity.
The skill-building feature began its gradual global rollout in October. Engineers anticipate delivering the skill-recording functionality to preview users by late October. Additionally, Microsoft plans to launch Get Data via the web version of Excel in mid-October. Finally, the Clean Data tool is already deploying to users in measured phases.
