At CES 2023, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) unveiled the Qi2 wireless charging standard, incorporating Apple’s MagSafe magnetic alignment technology. According to recent reports, Google is planning to introduce support for Qi2 in its upcoming Pixel 10 series smartphones, alongside the launch of a new line of magnetic accessories under the name “Pixelsnap.”
According to information obtained by Android Authority, the initial Pixelsnap accessory lineup will include at least three products: a standard charger, a charger with an integrated stand, and a magnetic charging accessory known as the “Ring Stand,” all designed specifically for use with the Pixel 10 series.
Furthermore, the Pixel 10 will support the Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard, with a maximum charging capacity of up to 60W. Each Pixelsnap accessory will be tailored to deliver the optimal power output for the corresponding compatible device.
With the Pixel 10 adopting the Qi2 standard, it is anticipated that more Android smartphone manufacturers will follow suit, embracing this next-generation wireless charging technology.
Apple introduced the MagSafe magnetic alignment system with the iPhone 12 series in 2020. Although initially met with skepticism, it ultimately gave rise to a broad ecosystem of accessories that enhanced the user experience. Now that Apple has contributed its MagSafe interface to the Qi2 standard, the market is expected to see a surge in innovative wireless charging products that leverage magnetic alignment for greater functionality and convenience.
