Old vs. new
In the days leading up to Google I/O 2025, Google has quietly unveiled a subtle redesign of its iconic brand logo. The refreshed “G” now features a gradient blend between its signature red, yellow, green, and blue hues. Similarly, the star-shaped symbol in the Gemini logo has also been updated with a gradient treatment.
At present, the changes appear to be limited to the mobile versions of the Google and Gemini apps. The web-based Google search homepage, the service menu, and other Google app icons have yet to reflect the new design.
In contrast to the comprehensive rebranding of 2015 — when Google shared detailed insights into the creative rationale behind its visual overhaul — this redesign has been rolled out with considerably less fanfare.
Overall, the update introduces no drastic visual changes, with the primary enhancement being the addition of gradient effects. Whether this shift is intended to echo Google’s broader push into artificial intelligence remains uncertain.
